Geocaching Update: Newest Apps and Introduction to Treasure Hunting on Android

Back in April of 2009 I wrote a blog post about Geocaching on my G1 Android phone. Together with the accompanying YouTube video it was a big success and I still get emails asking me what apps I’m using for Geocaching these days.

Geocaching is a GPS based seek and find treasure hunt. Its ideal for families and encourages getting outdoors both in urban and rural settings.

Many Geocaching apps have come and go in the Android Market since 2009. Groundspeak has even released an official app from but it hasn’t really been popular as a paid app because there are so many free alternatives.

My favorite app these days is C:GEO. It has live map features and makes it real easy to log finds. It also makes it easy to log travel bugs that are in your inventory. It always displays smiley faces on the geocaches you have already found.

The funny thing is that I’ve never had to go back to once since I downloaded this app.
