wpTogo – WordPress app for Android

UPDATE: Try this newer article about the official WordPress app.

WordPress is quickly gaining popularity as a blogging platform and website creator. WordPress offers a solution to people looking to start a website or blog that don’t have a lot of html or other coding experience. WordPress is simple, versatile, and powerful when it comes to site optimization. (This site is a wordpress site)

So for us android geeks we have finally seen a wordpress app surface in the android market. WpTogo isn’t fantastic, and I would go so far as to even say it isn’t really that good. Just to give it a full try I am going to create and publish this post from the wpTogo app on my G1.

Most of the functionality is simple enough but it lacks a lot of key features! Basically you can write a basic post with any hyperlinks and attach a couple of pictures from your SD card. You can input tags and categories but that’s about it.

For now I guess it will have to do. The iPhone (I know that’s like a cuss word) has released a complete, official wordpress app and so it is just a matter of time now.

Its a common android theme. If you do a google search for WordPress Android Theme, I’m sure you will find it.

Nice app! Just installed it on my HTC Hero, and it works great :-)

I have trouble with this app, I think, because wordpress doesn’t host my blog, I just use the wordpress software. The app won’t just automatically add the post, I have to go to my site and add it myself (defeating the purpose of the app) and it won’t add photos.
This is a bummer because I LOVE wordpress, but a lot of times (most) I want to post as I’m on the go. wptogo doesn’t seem to want me to do this. sigh. :(

Have you tried contacting the developers Cathy? I know they intend their app to work with WordPress.com sites but I’ve never tried that myself as all my sites are self-hosted. The other thing you might look into is the pixelpipe pro app which will post directly to your wordpress site.

If you’re struggling publishing from your phone, save your post to local drafts and in local drafts long press the post and tell it to upload. So long as the publish tick box is ticked this will publish to your site.

Anyone know how to get past the error on connection that PI can’t start with PI? I’d love to try this out on my new droid.
