Android Oreo Released For The Nokia 5 And Nokia 6
John Sarvikas, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, has Tweeted that the official Android Oreo software update is now available for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 handsets. HMD Global and Nokia started testing the Android Oreo software update for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 devices back in December 2017, and now customers of these devices will start to receive the update notification.
The update to Android Oreo brings with it the ‘as expected’ benefits, including picture-in-picture support for a number of applications, launcher notification dots, support for the password autofill API, and enhancements to Android’s power management software. The Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 are both based around the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, but the Nokia 5 has a smaller, 720p resolution display and the Nokia 6 has a larger, 1080p resolution display. Each device has a 3,000 mAh battery but there are differences in the camera, as the Nokia 6 comes with a 16MP pixel and the Nokia 5 has a 13MP pixel. These two devices, along with the Nokia 3, represent Nokia’s reintroduction into the smartphone market following a hiatus after Microsoft bought the Nokia phone business.
It’s great news that HMD Global and Nokia are working on updating their devices, even though it has taken some time for the update to arrive for the smartphone. If you are using one of these two devices, it is likely to take some days before the update arrives for all customers across the world, so be patient and your phone will eventually receive the update.
